Stone Sour, House Of Gold And Bones: Part 1

STONE SOUR

House Of Gold And Bones: Part 1
As far as come backs or grand returns go in the music world today, this is by far the greatest since Iron Maiden's 2000 return album, Brave New World. With House Of Gold And Bones: Part 2 on the horizon due for release early 2013, the return is only going to be more of a milestone for Stone Sour and the Metal music world.
Although it has only been 2 years since Stone Sour released the amazing Audio Secrecy, the concept album House Of Gold And Bones: Part 1 still marks a comeback from what a year ago seemed like the end of the road for Stone Sour. Personal issues, health complications and other commitments meant for some of Stone Sour's members, this band would have to wait. The bands first casualty was bassist Shawn Economaki, who left the band earlier this year. In the eyes of many fans the future of the band looked dark.
Whatever it was that changed within Stone Sour, and all of the hardships that were occurring for its members a year or so ago, clearly only made them stronger. Both together and individually. To come back from what seemed like the end of the line and produce a monolith of an album, with another just months away, is why Stone Sour deserve the award for best comeback in recent history.
House Of Gold And Bones: Part 1 contains a mixture of calm songs such as "The Travelers, Part 1" and "Taciturn". This album also contains possibly the heaviest Stone Sour song to date, "RU486" which we hear Corey Taylor using his distinctive and iconic roar.

Track list: 1.) Gone Sovereign, 2.) Absolute Zero, 3.) A Rumor Of Skin, 4.) The Travelers, Part 1, 5.) Tired, 6.) RU486, 7.) My Name Is Allen, 8.) Taciturn, 9.) Influence Of A Drowsy God, 10.) The Travelers, Part 2 11.) Last Of The Real
Three tracks from the album that really stand out are:

1.) "Gone Sovereign" (track 1)
This track was the first single to be heard ahead of the release of House Of Gold And Bones: Part 1. The single was a extended version that just like on the album, bleeds straight into track 2 "Absolute Zero". The release of this song reassured any doubting fans and solidified peoples love and respect for Stone Sour once more. A song packed with amazing lyrics, superb towering riffs and an overall distinctive Stone Sour sound, similar to that of songs such as "Mission Statement" and "Unfinished".

2.) "Tired" (track 5)
Lyrically, "Tired" is the most powerful on the whole album. A heavy track that is a bombardment of clean yet screamed singing, amazing instrumental and an all round perfect song. It's clear upon listening to the lyrics on this song and the album, "Tired" is a song that fits into the more negative side of the concept album. This may be the case looking a lyrics, yet somehow through the overall finish of the track it comes off as being one of the most likely songs to get you off your seat and screaming the words back at your stereo. A combination of the singing, instrumentals, presentation and feel of the track make it one of the best on the album and one of the best in the history of Stone Sour.

3.) "RU486" (track 6)
RU486 is the heaviest track on the album by a country mile. And that is saying something. This track is reminiscent of songs such as "Get Inside" from the self titled album. The style of singing or roaring is far more like that of which Corey uses on more recent Slipknot songs such as "Psychosocial". This track isn't just the heaviest in terms of singing style, but is also the heaviest in terms of instrumentals.

Other Stone Sour songs to listen to: -"Say You'll Haunt Me" (Audio Secrecy, 2010)
-"30/30-150"                (Come What (ever) May, 2006)
-"Your God"                 (Come What (ever) May, 2006)
                                                       -"Inhale"                       (Stone Sour, 2002)

EXODUS: PERSONA NON GRATA

EXODUS: PERSONA NON GRATA         The Thrash Metal hierarchy has long been constructed around the mainstream success of the American "Big Four", dwarfing their peers outside of the clique with their mass popularity and stratospheric record sales. Thanks to bands such as Exodus, Testament and Overkill, a revolution has begun. The most recent releases from those bands comprising the Big Four have been good at best, while the latest albums from these previously mentioned outsiders have been breathtakingly excellent.    Persona Non Grata is a crushingly heavy slab of solid Thrash Metal. Gary Holt and fellow guitarist Lee Altus whip up a veritable storm of crunchy, Thrashing, whiplash-inducing riffs from start to finish. A superhuman barrage of drum battery is unleashed by Tom Hunting, accompanied by Jack Gibson's booming, thundering and raking bass notes. All the while Steve Souza sings, screams and snarls like a rabid and possessed vocal maestro....

MASSACRE: RESURGENCE

MASSACRE: RESURGENCE      Like the walking dead, Massacre just keep coming back time after time. Refusing to stay down, this band simply won't die. To survive, Massacre takes on a new form every ascension, this time they have re-emerged as the Kam Lee band, with the legendary vocalist being the most consistent and regular member of the band over the years and through the numerous reformations.   The Massacre that we are faced with here on Resurgence could be considered as something of a Death-Metal supergroup. Comprising the band alongside Kam Lee; we have Mike Borders on bass guitar whom was previously a member of the band for short spell in the mid 1980's, alongside Jonny Pettersson of Wombbath (and countless other bands and projects) and Rogga Johansson of Paganizer (and possibly even more bands and projects than Jonny) on guitars, Brynjar Helgetun on drums, and Memoriam's resident riff-lord Scott Fairfax providing lead guitar. United this band of talented ...
