Bullet For My Valentine
Temper Temper
Whether you like them or not, Bullet For My Valentine are huge. Any person with sense can see that they are probably the biggest band to burst out of the UK in a decade, taking the higher festival slots that once belonged to their peers. With 3 previous albums that have worked their way into the hearts and souls of thousands of adoring fans, this 4th album will surely see them shoot up the charts faster than Usain Bolt on Speed. But will it?
With this monumental album and the undeniable soaring success of the band, keyboard warriors have been sharing their disapproval about all things related to Bullet For My Valentine. So what is that these faceless critics are complaining about? Well the terms "Mainstream" and "Selling out" are thrown around a lot, but both make no sense when being used to insult Bullet For My Valentine. If somebody was to argue that they didn't like BFMV because they are heading towards the "Mainstream", (if they are not already there) then that would be saying that they don't like the band because they are obviously a talented and successful band. Not liking a band purely because they are "Mainstream" is like saying you don't like cake because it tastes nice. As for saying they have "sold out", surely that would be a good thing. If they have "sold out" shows that means they can move to bigger venues and festival slots. If they have "sold out" albums that means they have sold such vast quantities of albums and earned enough money to carry on doing what they love to do and what we love them to be doing. So keyboard warriors, am I missing the point?
The album itself is a masterpiece. Songs are far shorter on Temper Temper than on previous album, Fever. A very distinct BFMV sound is emitted from this album with fast Thrash anthems such as title track "Temper Temper" and "Riot", to the more melodic songs including "Breaking Point", "P.O.W" and "Tears Don't Fall (Part 2)". There isn't a single bad song on the album, there is no filler, and most importantly no sign of slowing down.
Lyrics don't come much more personal than the ones on this album. The band themselves have spoken in interviews about how some songs contain lyrics about how close the band was to a "Breaking Point" a year or so ago whilst on the Fever tour in south America. So if Temper Temper is the sound of a band not coming back from the edge of destruction, but instead diving straight into the unknown. Then surely Bullet For My Valentine are living prof that, "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger".
When a band such as BFMV is working on a new album and describe it as new, different, experimental or conceptual, warning lights flick on in the minds of a majority of fans. Making a "different" album can be a very risky move, as demonstrated by Metallica. They tried something different with "St Anger", which has become one of the most hated Metal albums of all time. Despite this they are still one of the biggest bands in the world. Judging by Temper Temper, Bullet For My Valentine avoided pulling the shortest straw of creativity. So after all the bands hard work and troubles overcome, they have produced what many fans will view as their best album yet. Within a few days of Temper Temper being released the general response it has met has been exceptionally good. so, who will keyboard warriors complain about now?
