DOWNLOAD FESTIVAL JUST GOT EVEN BETTER!!!
Those of us who have already purchased tickets to the UK's most Metal event of 2013, have just been dealt another reason to throw the horns and mosh around our living rooms with excitement. Those among us who haven't yet purchased entry to the Metal Metropolis that is Download Festival, were given a further nudge into doing so last night. So what has caused this new wave of excitement regarding Download Festival you may ask? Another life changing line up announcement is what.
Although a majority of us Downloaders were eagerly sitting in front of our computer screens at 6 pm last night, overwhelmed with excitement and anticipation of who could be confirmed in the announcement, those who weren't able to see the announcement first hand wouldn't have had to wait long to hear the news. The news of which surely disappointed no-one. Even the keyboard warriors would have had series difficulty finding fault in the latest batch of bands. Here a few reasons why:
CHTHONIC
Taiwan's finest return to Download on Saturday 15th, on the Pepsi stage. Chthonic last performed at Download festival in 2011, and those of us who witnessed such a barrage of brutal, unique and hypnotizing Metal will surely never forget it. Chthonic have been working on their latest album since late last year, and with any luck we should have new material to get our hands on before the big weekend. Or at least hear some new material performed on stage. Until then we can be more than satisfied with Chthonics last album, Takasago Army which is an unparalleled masterpiece.
GHOST
Ghost have risen to international stardom since the release of their debut, Opus Eponymous, in 2010. Their intoxicating strain of Occult Metal has earned themselves a place in the hearts of fans from the likes of you and me, to James Hetfield and Philip. H Anselmo. Even if your not a huge fan of songs or even entire albums dedicated to Lucifer, you will almost certainly fall in love with their unhallowed vocals, doom saturated riffs and chilling keyboards.
Ghost's stage appearance is also a sight to behold. With the Nameless Ghouls in long robes with covered faces, to Papa Emeritus in full Satanic Pope style uniform.
Among the other 15 bands announced, Norwegian legends Satyricon are confirmed for the Sunday night Pepsi stage headliners. Black Stone Cherry were also confirmed as the Friday night second stage headliners. Here is the full list of bands announced:
- Chthonic
- Ghost
- Satyricon
- Black Stone Cherry

- Fearless Vampire Killers
- Hammer Of The Gods
- Voodoo Six
- Rival Sons
- Fidlar

Surely you've heard of Bloodstock Open Air/Camden Deathfest? Download isn't the most metal event of 2013 by a mile. Just sayin... If you're judging by how heavy the bands playing are anyway.
ReplyDeleteBloodstock and Deathfest are both amazing events and this years Bloodstock line up is nothing short of spectacular! I am personally going to Download festival and am unable to go to Bloodstock. On that basis my opinion is of course bias. So my statement of Download Festival being the most metal event of the year may not sit right with everyone, but with the likes of Iron Maiden, Slipknot, Down, Five Finger death Punch, Hellyeah, Chthonic and many many more, its surely not to far from the truth. \m/
DeleteYou do make a good point, and I suppose at the end of the day what you consider "metal" will always differ from person to person depending on tastes and circumstances. Download's just never lived up to the hype for me.
ReplyDeleteWell said! And at the end of the day, its the fact that the events are Metal that matters. \m/
