Warbeast: Destroy

Warbeast: Destroy
Looks like you'll need to go and grab your patch covered battle jacket and nail studded whristbands. Why? because Thrash is back.
You would be right in thinking that Thrash-metal never really went away. That being said, the sub-genre wasn't in the best of health around the turn of the millennium. With the wave of new blood bands such as Evile, Municipal Waste, Toxic Holocaust and Warbeast, Thrash-Metal is riding high once again. Warbeast's latest offering, Destroy, just emphasises the current strength of Metal.
If Destroy does represent the state and condition of our beloved Metal world, then clearly this world is stronger than it has ever been. Warbeast had set the bar very high for themselves with their debut, Krush the Enemy, but I ashore you that Destroy will not leave you disappointed. You may ask "can Warbeast really beat their own heavyweight hitters like We Are The Vultures and Self Will Run Riot?" and the answer is a resounding, Yes. From the opening instrumental track "Cryogenic Thawout", you can tell that your in for a treat. As the album progresses through limb flailing Thrash anthems such as "Nightmare In The Sky" and "Nobody", your brain will be mercilessly battered. Battered by a combination of the furious headbanging and windmilling that Destroy induces, and the barrage of infectious lyrical lines and riffs that are guaranteed to become lodged in your ears and mind for many months.
The strong and commanding vocals are still as dominant as on debut Krush the Enemy, but its the instrumentals that truly claim superiority on Destroy. The riffs are just indescribably incredible. Tracks like "Warbeast", "The Day That..." and title track "Destroy" present Metal mastery at its highest. The closest possible comparison would be to say that Warbeast's sound is 25% Destruction, 25% Testament, 25% Death Angel and 25% Pantera. Whoever Warbeast may have been influenced by, with albums like Destroy and Krush The Enemy these guys will be inspiring generations of Metal-Heads for years to come.

However, it should also highlight just how much can change within a 365 day stretch, and just how much Metal music can terraform within that time. So lets hope 2014 lives up to the achievements of 2013. Bring on the...

BEAST IN BLACK: DARK CONNECTION

BEAST IN BLACK:  DARK CONNECTION     Bombastic, heavy, wild and fun, Dark Connection is everything that any obliging listener can expect to hear from Finnish whippersnappers Beast In Black.      Saturated with synths, electronics and plenty of twiddling guitars, the album has a very European (or more specifically Scandinavian) Pop vibe, more prevalent here than on Beast In Black's previous efforts. That said, there is no shortage of cracking riffs, slamming drums and impressive vocals.     Kicking off in dramatic fashion, " Blade Runner " offers up an seizure inducing blur of riffs and crazed keys. Sounding like a disco injected Judas Priest, " Bella Donna " is bizzare yet undeniably infectious and catchy. With a great sing-along chorus, crunchy Metallic riffs and an abundance of synths and keys, " Highway To Mars " is another groovy staple. Offering a little more heaviness, " Hardcore " pounds and thunders along like a softer Sab...
