CHILDREN OF BODOM
HALO OF BLOOD
Another Children Of Bodom album, another selection of brilliant songs, another victory for Finland's finest. Halo Of Blood really has got something for everyone, Whether you're particularly into earlier albums like Hatebreeder and Follow The Reaper, or a fan of more recent releases, such as Blooddrunk and Relentless Reckless Forever.
Over the last 15 years, Children Of Bodom have created some truly phenomenal albums. Halo Of Blood is the latest chapter in Bodom's legacy, displaying all of the gradual evolving of the band over the years, resulting in a sound that is undeniably Children Of Bodom's.
Every track on Halo Of Blood, is entirely its own entity. The bruising opening track, "Waste Of Skin", will get you in the mood to mosh, with its Blooddrunk style vibe and gradual ascent into the trademark, symphonic-Death riffs. The Emperor saluting title track, "Halo Of Blood", begins with ferocious Black-Metal style riffs, before heading towards more familiar territory. The introduction of the unescapably Black-Metal riffs makes for a pleasant and very welcome surprise. "Dead Man's Hand On You", begins with an uncharacteristically slow paced introduction, leading into a deep vocal passage, reminiscent of Lamb Of God's "King Me". Predictably, "Dead Man's Hand On You" proves to be a unique highlight of the album. Masterpieces might be something Children Of Bodom are used to making, but the blast-beat wielding "Damaged Beyond Repair", is a next level creation. Boasting a plethora of styles and sounds, "Damaged Beyond Repair" showcases the bands mastery with brutal riffs, throat annihilating screams, soundscaping synthesisers and machine-gun drumming. After a turbulent listen of the first 8 tracks of the album, "All Twisted", brings it all back together. With instrumentals only describable as Bodom's and infectious chanting vocals worthy of stadiums.
Halo Of Blood is definitely Bodom's best album since Are You Dead Yet?, In reality, Halo Of Blood could be their best album to date. However you wish to define Halo Of Blood and Children Of Bodom's music, there is certainly one label we can all agree on, mind-blowing.
