VADER: TIBI ET IGNI
Vader are a band with absolutely nothing to prove. After 3 decades of creating heavy music, expectations on new material will always be high. However, this would be a foolish approach to take when regarding Vader. The fact that creating solid extreme music is clearly encoded in Piotr "Peter" Wiwczarek's DNA, as well as Vader's reputation as one of Poland's greatest Metal exports, and not forgetting the impressive existing array of underground classics to their name, it is a safe bet that any new material is probably going to crack skulls and pump fists in the same way that Vader always have.
The ear assault begins after a huge sound-scaping intro to opening track "Go To Hell", which raises pulses with distinctive Vader style. Following this is the double blow of "Where Angels Weep" and "Armada On Fire", a blastbeat boasting display of muscular Death-Metal, both tracks carry a hint of the "Litany" era, although more mature and developed in terms of style and sound. In the same vein, tracks like "Abandon All Hope" and "Worms Of Eden", will prove to be highlights for fans of the old school. Vader's ever increasing move towards a more Thrash orientated sound dominates "Tibi Et Igni", but in a good way. "Triumph Of Death" and "The Light Reaper" for example, carry a style of weighty Thrash riffing that Vader have long since made their own. Breathtaking intros have also become a prominent feature of their music, which happens to make tracks such as the pulsing battery of "Hexenkessel", and the undeniably massive "The Eye Of The Abyss", both epic and metallic. Concluding a fine album in spectacular style, "The End" is a culmination of all that Vader have achieved in their career. Packed with barrages of blasting riffs, Peter's unique vocals ranging from attention-grabbing slower spoken passages to his iconic gruff tones, and a career spanning sound that is guaranteed to gain favor with Vader fans of all generations.
30 years of experience channeled into one album, "Tibi Et Igni" is a flawless embodiment of heavy music, and a resounding statement of Vader's undisputed status within the Metal world. Although it almost certainly wont be, if this was to be Vader's final chapter, then it truly would be quitting while ahead.
