SABATON
Korpiklaani and Tyr
It is testament to the popularity of Scandinavian Metal that The Waterfront is packed for the return of 3 of the finest from the north. The bands on tonight's line up are no strangers to this game or to these shores, but judging by the packed out crowd, it is obvious to see that people are already expecting to have their minds blown by the best.
The venue is certainly in high spirits awaiting a Power-Metal party to remember, with smiling faces and plastic cups being exchanged all around. First up to the stage is the Viking obsessed, Tyr [8]. Hindered from the word go by technical difficulties, Tyr still manage to deliver a solid crowd pleasing set, with songs such as "Blood Of Heroes" and "Hold The Heathen Hammer High" sounding more like headliner material than that of the first band on.
Up next are Korpiklaani [7], a Finnish Folk-Metal band that defy expectation. Taking the party to the next level with crowd appeasing tunes about alcohol, Korpiklaani certainly set the stage and warm up the crowd for the main attraction.
What follows blew away the performances before them, and demonstrated perfectly why it is that they are held in such high esteem. Sabaton [10] take the stage ready for battle and blow the crowd away with their pounding battle-cry. Delivering hit after hit with perfect precision, they are welcomed back as heroes. Between songs, Joakim Broden's stage presence and humor keeps the crowd in high spirits. It seems that even with Sabaton's setlist democracy the fans just can't get enough of the Swedes, demonstrated perfectly when a choice between "Soldier Of 3 Armies" and "Smoking Snakes" results in them playing both songs instead. Other gems such as "Swedish Pagans", "40:1" and "The Art Of War" were lapped up by the adoring fans. All in all, this was an incredible performance worthy of festival headliners, let alone Waterfront headliners.
10:The best of the best - 1:Not worth your time
