IHATE
Since the very first pioneering releases of the late 1980's, Death-Metal has consistently been a haven for all things sick and twisted. Although remaining firmly in the Metal underground, some Death-Metal vocalists and musicians have become household names among the loyal hordes of fans, which is why IHATE may have caught the attention of many extreme Metal fans. Boasting an experienced line up for their debut release, IHATE sees the combined forces of Six Feet Under's guttural master, Chris Barnes, alongside Bob Taggett and Deicide shredder, Brian Hoffman. The resulting work is exactly what you would expect, crushing, energetic Old-school Death-Metal, forged by the experts themselves.
If you are lucky enough to get your hands on a physical copy of this Metal masterclass, then you will soon realise that this is not your average release. The first half of the album showcases IHATE's debut material in demo form, while the second half contains the same tracks as instrumentals, re-recorded and produced as would be intended for studio release. Despite being demo recordings, the eight tracks that contain Chris Barnes vocals are nothing short of jaw dropping. This is a full on Death-Metal feast with all the trimmings. The musicianship is precise, relentless and every bit as barbaric as any fan could hope for.
Opening track, "First Responder", begins proceedings in spectacular style, with some of the most horrific lyrics ever put to paper, which is exactly what we want to hear. The crunchy riffs and fully-automatic machine gun drumming continues into, "Attack With Confidence", as does the lyrical massacre. "Nefarious" opens with tortured screams and slabs of distortion, but it is tracks such as; "Seeing Red", "In The Dumpster" and "Stretcher", (which is without a doubt one of the hardest hitting tracks of the album) that are the true standouts. Reminiscent of the classic Cannibal Corpse style, but with a distinctive individual sound unique to IHATE, these tracks pummel your ears with melodic, blasting savagery that would send a live crowd into a frenzy.
Although Chris Barnes is no longer in the fold, these tracks are brilliant enough to attract attention to IHATE. Standing out on there own merit, if this is a taste of what is to come, then we can expect to hear great things from this band in the future.
