VALLENFYRE : FEAR THOSE WHO FEAR HIM
Utter filth. A strong statement, granted, but a fitting one here. Vallenfyre's third full-length release, "Fear Those Who Fear Him", is a disgusting, putrid, festering hive of excellence, bringing together the distinctive attributes of Old-school Death-Metal, Doom and crusty Grindcore, then masterfully stitching them altogether to create an entirely new monster.
Carrying on seamlessly in the style and intensity of it's predecessor, 2014's "Splinters", "Fear Those Who Fear Him", is a magnificent display of extremity, showcasing brilliant musicianship, which is unsurprising considering Vallenfyre's pedigree. In comparison to "Splinters", Fear Those Who Fear Him is definitely of a greater Grinding inclination, with tracks such as; "Messiah", "Nihilist", "Kill All Your Masters" and "Dead World Breathes", guaranteed to make the passing Napalm Death and Lock Up fans feel cosy and welcome, with speedy sections of blastbeat ridden brutality and generous helpings of headbang worthy riffs. The most noticeable impact of the heavy Grind infestation, is that these songs actually provide short respites between the more memorable waves of buzzsaw driven Old-school Death-Doom.
The most notable examples of the previously mentioned Death-Doom devastation, is delivered in the forms of tracks such as; "An Apathetic Grave", "The Merciless Tide" and "Curse From The Womb", which are arguably some of the best examples of slow, chugging rhythmic rot, littered with awe-inspiring death-growls, and more atmosphere than a thunderstorm over the stormy seas, to have ever been released by a band that isn't called Asphyx. Meanwhile, "Degeneration", "Amongst The Filth" and "Soldier Of Christ" bring the savage stench of Death(-Metal) and take proceedings to a whole new level, reviving the glory days of the old-school scene in classic style.
If you were already enlisted into the fandom ranks by "Splinters", or "A Fragile King", then fear not, because you will be overjoyed with "Fear Those Who Fear Him". If you are new to Vallenfyre, or are just a fan of the old-school Death, Grind and Doom-Metal of the early 1990's glory days, then you will love this album. Packed with genuinely enjoyable yet extreme music, right from the opening Grinds of, "Messiah", to the closing chugs of "Temple Of Rats", Fear Those Who Fear Him is a stunning piece of work, guaranteed to give even the legendary bands of this ilk a run for their money.
