ENTRAILS: WORLD INFERNO
Old-school Death-Metal is not dead, despite what some "trve" and "kvlt" fans may believe. For proof of this, check out Entrails' phenomenal new album, World Inferno. Packed full of, Entombed and Dismember worshiping putrid buzz-saw riffs and filthy death-growls, World Inferno is a sterling effort that is sure to please even the most avid Death-Metal maniacs.
Upon listening to Entrails, it is clear that these guys are more than just a nostalgia band, you can hear that they are obviously passionate fans and listeners of the old ways themselves, which is apparent throughout World Inferno, whether it is on the Vomitory-esque, "Into Eternal Fire", or "Serial Murder (Death Squad)", which carries clear echos of, At The Gate's seminal, Slaughter Of The Soul.
The title track, "World Inferno", opens the album in top form, complete with an eerie introduction that then launches into a full throttle death storm, bringing the classic Scandinavian sound to your ears in corpse ripping style. "Condemned To The Grave", changes the pace marginally, with slow building, menacing riffs that are guaranteed to get heads banging and maybe even corpse rising from the crypts. "The Soul Collector" is another perfect example of Entrails' mastery, bringing the chugging to a rhythmic, almost groovy level, making it another standout track. "Suffer" turns the filth up to 11, in spectacular Death-grind fashion, armed with intense drumming and, of course, bucket loads of riffs, not to mention a delightfully simple chant-worthy chorus. "The Hour Of The Casket" is another heavyweight standout, embodying the very essence of what old-school Death-Metal is really all about. Closing the album is "The Blood Breed", an entirely evil affair that starts like much of the album, with fast paced riffing and drumming, dripping with grotesque brilliance, but the difference here is the incredible use of acoustic guitars and bellowing growls introduced midway through the track, that closes the album in a magnificent and memorable way.
All in all, World Inferno is an impressive album, full of the Death-Metal spirit and musical arsenal that makes it so appealing to the devoted masses. It may not be, Left Hand Path, or Last One On Earth, but it is certainly an enjoyable effort and a worthy descendant.
