DEBRIDEMENT: REDUCED TO A PILE OF PUTREFYING SLOP
Reduced To A Pile Of Putrefying Slop is as grotesquely brutal as the name suggests. The debut EP from the one-man brutality machine, Connor Brown, consists of six slices of savagery, all of which are well produced and equally as memorable. Describing Debridement's sound as simply Slam or Brutal Death-Metal really does not do the music the service it deserves. Unlike many of today's extreme Metal releases, this EP contains minimal samples with the exception of a few random yet hilarious introductions, instead Debridement have opted to fill the 18 minutes running time with actual music and very good music at that. Notable vocal contributions from Jon Burr (Omnipotent Hysteria) and Tom Blackwell (Days Of Perversion) add a refreshing flavor to this melting pot of madness.
Opening track "Obliterated", is a perfect introduction to the EP, with a classic Kraanium twang. Following a very familiar sample, Debridement unleash a torrent of filthy, thick riffs, squealing Slam signature vocals and drum insanity that should not, and would not be humanly possible. Instantly, the guitar work becomes the main focus here, as the heavily groove laden tornado of distortion strikes like an intoxicating and bewildering force.
"Bits Of Her Splattered Everywhere", is led by bouncing grooves and sliding Slams blended with bursts of Grinding insanity. The emergence of the rumbling bass tones and the vocal warfare that ensues are also extremely pleasurable.
"Fermented Fecal Feast", is in no way a slow song, but it is distinctly calmer in some parts than the previous two furious tracks. Intentionally or not, the incredible leading riffs have a early Slipknot chugging style to them, the track also has a hint of Aphelion era Slamophiliac vibrancy to it, giving it a welcome diverse appeal.
"The Ballad Of Carlos Estavez" is all the more barbaric for Jon Burr's guest appearance, as the vocal battle that takes places leaves the listener feeling like a gormless, open-mouthed spectator. The groove remains strong here, melded with strong hints of Oncology-esque atmospheric brutality.
The deep booming riffs that comprise the title track, "Reduced To A Pile Of Putrefying Slop" are as crushing and intense as they are memorable, bleeding into the closing track, "Shards Of Bone". The final song begins as a solid slab of Slam, with a wall of gritty riffage, blastbeats and a bounty of crunch, before melting into hypnotic bouncing grooves that slowly fade out with the song, again in Slamophiliac inspired style.
Overall, Reduced To A Pile Of Putrefying Slop is a superb EP, containing undeniably attentive and masterfully composed music, that satisfies the Brutal Slamming Death-Metal taste-buds plentifully, leaving the listener hungry for more.
