GUTTER MEAT CLITTER: REBELLION OF SICK REPTILES

GUTTER MEAT CLITTER: REBELLION OF SICK REPTILES

The latest offering from international Slam outfit, Gutter Meat Clitter, is a consistent affair, of pure Slamming brutality and dinosaur themes, what more could you want? Rebellion Of Sick Reptiles comprises of eight, skull pounding tracks of brilliantly produced Brutal Slamming Death Metal, highly reminiscent of, and paying great homage to the sub-genre godfathers, such as; Disfigurement Of Flesh, Katalepsy and Kraanium.
The production here cannot be faulted, unlike the lyrics, the music is delivered in crisp, clean and clear quality. "Global Warming" starts proceedings with all the low-end booming fury that your ears can tolerate, sickening gutturals and a drum program on overdrive. The thunderous rhythms continue into, "Necrophagous", a short and sweet track of rapturous extremity. The title, "Punisher", does the song justice, describing it perfectly, as the listener is subjected to unforgiving barrages of ultra distorted, stomping, Slamming riffs and drum battery. "Carnivore Hunter" changes tact slightly, with a faint touch of technicality accompanying the hammering brutality, before "Cornered Predator", reverts the sound back to pure, primitive, caveman Slam.
The Slams continue to drop like rain, as every track seems to be crammed to bursting point with bouncing, intoxicatingly groovy riffage, as, "Extinct", demonstrates plainly. "Reptile Gangs", verges on Deathcore in nature, with walls of solid chugging and breakdowns. The final track, "Great Extinction", is the crowning moment of the album, incorporating manic speeds, slowly building Slams and deeply inaudible gutturals, mashed together and delivered with undeniable intensity.
Admittedly, if it is diversity, technicality and atmospherics that you seek, then you will not find it here. If, however, it is merciless, brutish Brutal Slamming Death Metal that you desire, then Gutter Meat Clitter have it here in abundance. Overall, Rebellion Of Sick Reptiles is a well produced, simplistic and savage effort, well worth listening to.

EXODUS: PERSONA NON GRATA

EXODUS: PERSONA NON GRATA         The Thrash Metal hierarchy has long been constructed around the mainstream success of the American "Big Four", dwarfing their peers outside of the clique with their mass popularity and stratospheric record sales. Thanks to bands such as Exodus, Testament and Overkill, a revolution has begun. The most recent releases from those bands comprising the Big Four have been good at best, while the latest albums from these previously mentioned outsiders have been breathtakingly excellent.    Persona Non Grata is a crushingly heavy slab of solid Thrash Metal. Gary Holt and fellow guitarist Lee Altus whip up a veritable storm of crunchy, Thrashing, whiplash-inducing riffs from start to finish. A superhuman barrage of drum battery is unleashed by Tom Hunting, accompanied by Jack Gibson's booming, thundering and raking bass notes. All the while Steve Souza sings, screams and snarls like a rabid and possessed vocal maestro....

NO NONSENSE METAL REVIEWS: THE TOP 10 ALBUMS OF 2021

NO NONSENSE METAL REVIEWS: THE TOP 10 ALBUMS OF 2021     Despite lockdowns, travel restrictions and the cancellation of normality as a result of an ever present global pandemic, 2021 has been a very healthy year for heavy music. With the cancellation and indefinite postponement of tours, festivals and live music in general, bands and artists have been forced to explore alternative avenues and express their artistic visions and passions in other ways. The down time away from the road has left bands with schedules empty enough to write and record new material, some of which has proven to be exceptionally strong new albums, EPs and compilations. The phenomena of the "lockdown live album" as well as live streaming events and virtual concerts have also become a commonplace staple in many band's discography, showing defiantly that COVID-19 and the consequent restrictions enforced will never suffocate the breath of creativity or shroud the light of the soul. Making the be...
