GONADECTOMY: REIGN OF DISEASE

GONADECTOMY: REIGN OF DISEASE

As far as Brutal Slamming Death-Metal releases go, Gonadectomy's debut EP, Reign Of Disease, is a genuinely impressive and authentic creation. The Swedish Slamming double act have certainly done a sterling job of ensuring that their debut 6 track EP is both crushing and memorable in equal measure. Although there are actually only 5 tracks of original music on the EP, all 5 of the tracks are undeniably interesting, heavy and saturated with intense grooves.
Musically, Reign Of Disease is a refreshing take on primitive Slam infused with punishing Slamming Deathcore heaviness, attentively and articulately molded into something with a hint of uniqueness and identity. Although Gonadectomy are clearly not going to reinvent the wheel, nor is Reign Of Disease the best thing since sliced bread, they have certainly done a grand job and made a courageous effort in giving a very generic, repetitive style of music an attractive new appeal.
Opening track, "Cannibalistic Warlord" has an inexcusably massive Kraanium resemblance to it, with all the Slam characteristic sludgy slide riffs, crackling throaty gutturals, mechanical symbols and blastbeats that any standard Slam offering would be constructed with. "Atrocious Putrefaction" follows and crushes with fine form, unloading all the hammering and blistering riffs, colossal chugging Slams and rampant kick drums you can possibly handle.
"Abhorrent Existence" is an entirely different affair altogether, with a far more muscular sound, emanating from the bass heavy Slams, dominant vocals and total drum program battery.
"Eternal Wasteland" is easily the crowning standout moment of Reign Of Disease. The track is well written, crushingly heavy and jubilantly groovy, loaded with a mixture of grinding upbeat vibes and old-school style slabs of chugging, pounding riffage.
Closing the EP, "Reborn Cadaver" shows Gonadectomy finish on a savagely original note and in furious, unapologetic Slamming Deathcore style, letting loose a surge of hammer throwing, fist-pounding, delightfully rhythmic bouncing Slam riffs.
Overall, Reign Of Disease is a very strong start, a perfect platform from which Gonadecomy, whom have already attained themselves an admirable following, can feasibly reach Slam stardom. If you like monolithic Slamming grooves, crunchy riffs, noteworthy guttural vocals and of course, buckets of blastbeats, then Reign Of Disease will not disappoint.

EXODUS: PERSONA NON GRATA

EXODUS: PERSONA NON GRATA         The Thrash Metal hierarchy has long been constructed around the mainstream success of the American "Big Four", dwarfing their peers outside of the clique with their mass popularity and stratospheric record sales. Thanks to bands such as Exodus, Testament and Overkill, a revolution has begun. The most recent releases from those bands comprising the Big Four have been good at best, while the latest albums from these previously mentioned outsiders have been breathtakingly excellent.    Persona Non Grata is a crushingly heavy slab of solid Thrash Metal. Gary Holt and fellow guitarist Lee Altus whip up a veritable storm of crunchy, Thrashing, whiplash-inducing riffs from start to finish. A superhuman barrage of drum battery is unleashed by Tom Hunting, accompanied by Jack Gibson's booming, thundering and raking bass notes. All the while Steve Souza sings, screams and snarls like a rabid and possessed vocal maestro....

BRAINSTORM: WALL OF SKULLS

BRAINSTORM: WALL OF SKULLS       Brainstorm have been forging stunning Power Metal for decades now with no sign of rusting or wavering whatsoever. Their magnificent new album Wall Of Skulls is a masterpiece loaded with some of the catchiest and more memorable material that Brainstorm have ever unleashed.    The haunting chants and atmospherics that comprise intro " Chamber Thirteen " send a shiver down the spine, before " Where Ravens Fly " caries you away in glorious Power Metal fashion; fast, melodic and with soaring vocals.    Without a doubt " Solitude " is one of the most infectiously catchy and mesmerising songs on the album, with excellent vocals from the sonically beautiful frontman Andy B Franck and an abundance of wonderful riffs for good measure.    The double blow of " Escape The Silence " and " Turn Off The Light " which feature guest vocals from Rage's Peavy Wagner and Seeb Levermann  of Orden Ogan respectively ...
