JUNGLE ROT: JUNGLE ROT
Ten full-length albums and over a quarter of a century of total eardrum annihilation and Jungle Rot are still hungry and heavier than ever. Their tenth album, the self-titled titan that is Jungle Rot, is a formidable front and an unrelenting carnival of old-school Death-Metal chuggery.
A far sleeker and streamlined effort than it's excellent 2015 predecessor, Jungle Rot flows flawlessly, maintaining the kind of whiplash thrashing that is guaranteed to get heads banging. Jungle Rot have infact never sounded so mean and refreshing.
With more meaty hooks than an abattoir and an abundance of daringly catchy choruses, Jungle Rot is such an easily infectious listen, you need look no further than opening track "Send Forth Oblivion", a song overflowing with such furious riffs and monstrous vocals. Jungle Rot's seemingly obvious affinity for the German Teutonic Thrash-Metal sound has left a considerable impression on the album, "Delusional Denial" for example carries all the speed and characteristics that made bands such as Kreator and Sodom so pioneering and infamously incredible. A guest helping hand from Destruction's own Schmier on the superb "Fearmonger" and a sterling rendition of Kreator's "Terrible Certainty" closing proceedings also help to emphasise the Teutonic influence. "Triggered" is an old-school Death-Metal staple, loaded with punchy grooves and a sharp, Obituary style simplistic sound.
Elsewhere, "Stay Dead" will literally rip your face off with a riff tsunami of utterly addictive crunchy grooves which reach almost dangerous levels of hammering heaviness. "Glory For The Fallen" beautifully combines a pummeling Death/ Thrash assault with classic Heavy-Metal guitar leads and solos, while "Pumped Full Of Lead" deals a hand of nasty Six Feet Under-esque Death-Metal.
No, Jungle Rot is not full of surprises, no it will not get Jungle Rot into the mainstream music charts and no, it will not cure any life-threatening diseases, but what it will do is get fists pounding, necks hurting and with any justice, see Jungle Rot gain more of the praise and the following that they deserve. All in all, Jungle Rot is a great well rounded and highly enjoyable album.
