SINSAENUM: REPULSION FOR HUMANITY
There is an irresistible appeal to Sinsaenum's second full-length outing. The all-star Death-Metal collective have undergone a few obvious changes since their initial assault, the omission of co-vocalist Attila Csihar for example, but whatever decisions that were made and discussions that were had or ideas that were shared, has resulted in a very mature, humble yet impactful second album.
Sinsaenum play Death-Metal plain and simple and they do it very well, but Repulsion For Humanity does not lack diversity, infact the album is an impressive and encapsulating tour of the extreme end of musical spectrum.
"Repulsion For Humanity" erupts explosively, sounding the commencement of the assault in a way that is almost reminiscent of Slipknot's "People=Shit", before unloading a battery of monstrous Morbid Angel inspired rhythms. "Final Resolve" reeks of Obituary with it's thick, intoxicating grooves and daringly changeable paces. "Sworn To Hell" is a thrashing bruiser with an air of Destruction to it's sound, while "Rise Of The Light Bearer" takes proceedings to another level, landing somewhere between Death and Unleashed stylistically speaking, offering blistering speed, magnificent musicianship and pure old-school Death-Metal fury. Breaking pace considerably, "Manifestation Of Ignorance" is a curveball of dismal Death-Doom darkness, dripping with Monotheist-era Celtic Frost sludgy tones, only to revive itself with a mid-section interlude of shredding solos and surprise blastbeats.
The inclusion of 2, over 8 minute long tracks is a somewhat odd choice, however both "My Swan Song" and "Forsaken" are worthy of high praise, but it is the far more generic Death-Metal offering of "Sacred Martyr" that steals the show on the album's second half. Crammed with yet more Morbid Angel-esque thick grooves, eye-watering solos, blastbeats, masterful drum leads and formidably dominating vocals, "Sacred Martyr" has all it needs to appease any faithful Death-Metal fan and so much more.
Weighing in at over 1 hour running time, Repulsion For Humanity can be a little challenging and monotonous in parts, but these parts are very few and far between. Whether it is the crushing barbarity of "Repulsion For Humanity"'s introduction or the Blackened-Death-Metal trance inducing soundscape on "My Swan Song", Repulsion For Humanity is groaning with little surprises, there is enough here to keep the ears and attention of any listener worth their salt well and truly hooked.
