Gama Bomb Interview: No Nonsense Metal Interviews

NNMR: No Nonsense Metal Interviews:
GAMA BOMB

Thrash. Arguably the purest strain of Metal music. Its responsible for some of the biggest bands in the Metal world. Thrash, like all types of music, has had musical ups and downs. Times when it has been at the top of its game and encircling the world like a plague. It has also had times when it seemed to be crumbling before us. Here in 2013, this scene appears to be in its best health since 1986, and bands like Gama Bomb, are why.
Gama Bomb are one of greatest Thrash bands of the 21st century. Heralding from Ireland, they have created their own unique sound, while helping to rebuild Thrash back into the world conquering machine it was in the 1980's. Their dedication is truly inspirational, both through their extensive touring and their brilliant studio releases. Gama Bomb even released their third full length album as a free download. Gama Bomb's latest release, The Terror Tapes, is helping to boost them further towards Metal super-stardom.
NNMR interviewed Gama Bomb's own Joe McGuigan, post album release to find out how they feel about The Terror Tapes, and what Gama Bomb have planned for the near future.

NNMR: You guys have just released your 4th full length album, "The Terror Tapes", what has the reception been like from fans to the new album so far?
-Joe: "The reaction has been amazing so far, everyone we have spoken to and most of the magazines seem to agree its our best album yet. So far so good. Its a great feeling to know that were on top of our game creatively."

NNMR: What inspires you to create new material and are there any bands in particular that have inspired Gama Bomb's music?
-Joe: "Were inspired by our success I guess. A few months after we make an album we always are intrigued as to how we can top it, so our best songs inspire us to try and better ourselves. As younger guys we wore a lot of our influences on our sleeves, Sodom, Exodus, Anthrax, etc etc. So its been cool to go and play shows with those guys and fulfill a lot of our childhood dreams."

NNMR: What made you guys release your third full length album, "Tales From The Grave In Space" as a free album?
-Joe: "As fans, we consume a lot of older bands albums through downloads. Since you can't go down to your local shop and buy a Nuclear Assault album, the way we found a lot of our favorite bands was through downloading. Being a Irish based band we really wanted to expand our fan-base outside the UK, so we came up with the idea of having the album as a free download with earache records and it worked out great. We got to play a lot of shows in places like Brazil and Mexico, places where our albums weren't available on CD or LP."

NNMR: Will fans get to see Gama Bomb on the road before the end of 2013?

-Joe: "Yea we're on tour in Europe at the moment and will be going to the USA and South America before the end of the year."

NNMR: Many bands have been getting creative with their new releases over the past year. There have been double albums, multiple part albums and significant style shifts. Will Gama Bomb be following the trend
-Joe: "We've settled into a format of releasing two 7" singles for each album, so I think were happy to keep on releasing our stuff as 7" LP's and online."

NNMR: Will we be seeing a Gama Bomb, live album anytime soon?
-Joe: "Maybe, we were actually speaking to one of the promoters about that during the tour, maybe after the next album."

So there it is. Gama Bomb are already giving indication of what they could have up their sleeves. A potential live album after their "Next album". What ever their next moves maybe, fans will certainly be eagerly waiting. We can safely assume that they certainly wont be losing there love for making music, or sense of humour anytime soon....

NNMR: Any last points you would like to make to your fans
-Joe: "Cheers for supporting Gama Bomb, go have a beer and a w**k."

EXODUS: PERSONA NON GRATA

EXODUS: PERSONA NON GRATA         The Thrash Metal hierarchy has long been constructed around the mainstream success of the American "Big Four", dwarfing their peers outside of the clique with their mass popularity and stratospheric record sales. Thanks to bands such as Exodus, Testament and Overkill, a revolution has begun. The most recent releases from those bands comprising the Big Four have been good at best, while the latest albums from these previously mentioned outsiders have been breathtakingly excellent.    Persona Non Grata is a crushingly heavy slab of solid Thrash Metal. Gary Holt and fellow guitarist Lee Altus whip up a veritable storm of crunchy, Thrashing, whiplash-inducing riffs from start to finish. A superhuman barrage of drum battery is unleashed by Tom Hunting, accompanied by Jack Gibson's booming, thundering and raking bass notes. All the while Steve Souza sings, screams and snarls like a rabid and possessed vocal maestro....

MASSACRE: RESURGENCE

MASSACRE: RESURGENCE      Like the walking dead, Massacre just keep coming back time after time. Refusing to stay down, this band simply won't die. To survive, Massacre takes on a new form every ascension, this time they have re-emerged as the Kam Lee band, with the legendary vocalist being the most consistent and regular member of the band over the years and through the numerous reformations.   The Massacre that we are faced with here on Resurgence could be considered as something of a Death-Metal supergroup. Comprising the band alongside Kam Lee; we have Mike Borders on bass guitar whom was previously a member of the band for short spell in the mid 1980's, alongside Jonny Pettersson of Wombbath (and countless other bands and projects) and Rogga Johansson of Paganizer (and possibly even more bands and projects than Jonny) on guitars, Brynjar Helgetun on drums, and Memoriam's resident riff-lord Scott Fairfax providing lead guitar. United this band of talented ...

NO NONSENSE METAL REVIEWS: THE TOP 10 ALBUMS OF 2021

NO NONSENSE METAL REVIEWS: THE TOP 10 ALBUMS OF 2021     Despite lockdowns, travel restrictions and the cancellation of normality as a result of an ever present global pandemic, 2021 has been a very healthy year for heavy music. With the cancellation and indefinite postponement of tours, festivals and live music in general, bands and artists have been forced to explore alternative avenues and express their artistic visions and passions in other ways. The down time away from the road has left bands with schedules empty enough to write and record new material, some of which has proven to be exceptionally strong new albums, EPs and compilations. The phenomena of the "lockdown live album" as well as live streaming events and virtual concerts have also become a commonplace staple in many band's discography, showing defiantly that COVID-19 and the consequent restrictions enforced will never suffocate the breath of creativity or shroud the light of the soul. Making the be...
