Incantation: Profane Nexus

INCANTATION: PROFANE NEXUS

Incantation's 10th full length album, Profane Nexus, is the embodiment of Death Metal. Dripping with filthy riffs, full-throttle drumming, grotesque growling, and a generous helping of Autopsy brand Death-Doom, Profane Nexus is an essential for any fan of the band or old-school Death Metal done properly.
Staying true to their own unique take on the old-school style and sound, Profane Nexus is comprised of 11 songs of heretical brilliance, with nothing unexpected or unwelcome, no over complication, just total crushing heaviness. The opening track, "Muse", is a perfect example of just how Death Metal should be done, with a complex or grand introduction nowhere to be heard, the track has a very brief instrumental, before the casket is kicked wind open and the rotten riffs are unleashed. "Muse", like many of the tracks on the album, has a distinct Black Metal undertone, adding a very bleak and atmospheric grimness to their groovy old-school rhythms.
The pace quickens in Slayer-esque style as "Rites Of The Locust" follows, complete with background guitar solos and pummeling kick-drums. The Death-Doom drone of "Visceral Hexahedron" provides a delightful change of pace, giving vocalist John McEntee a spotlight opportunity to show off his savage vocal capabilities. "The Horns Of Gefrin" is one of the standout tracks of the album, packing some of the nastiest chugging riffs and crushing slow sections around, before proceedings take a turn for the sinister on, "Incorporeal Despair". Winning the award for most over the top and absolutely Metal use of the English language, "Stormgate Convulsions From The Thunderous Shores Of Infernal Realms Beyond The Grace Of God", is a chilling interlude, with haunting soundscapes, providing a brief yet memorable respite, before "Messiah Nostrum" brings you straight back to reality in a whirlwind of Death Metal fury.
Closing the album is the double blow of, "Omens To The Alter Of Onyx" and "Ancients Arise", which just so happen to be two of the best tracks of the album, bringing things to a close in spectacular style, loaded with morbid doom, rumbling bass, slow, menacing riffs and shredding vocals. The riff work displayed across these tracks is of such a high standard, it is clear why Incantation are considered esteemed veterans of their genre.
Overall, Incantation are experts in their field, and Profane Nexus is guaranteed to satisfy the masses. Whether or not you are a fan of the band or not, Profane Nexus has such an irresistibly filthy charm, which is impossible to resist.

BEAST IN BLACK: DARK CONNECTION

BEAST IN BLACK:  DARK CONNECTION     Bombastic, heavy, wild and fun, Dark Connection is everything that any obliging listener can expect to hear from Finnish whippersnappers Beast In Black.      Saturated with synths, electronics and plenty of twiddling guitars, the album has a very European (or more specifically Scandinavian) Pop vibe, more prevalent here than on Beast In Black's previous efforts. That said, there is no shortage of cracking riffs, slamming drums and impressive vocals.     Kicking off in dramatic fashion, " Blade Runner " offers up an seizure inducing blur of riffs and crazed keys. Sounding like a disco injected Judas Priest, " Bella Donna " is bizzare yet undeniably infectious and catchy. With a great sing-along chorus, crunchy Metallic riffs and an abundance of synths and keys, " Highway To Mars " is another groovy staple. Offering a little more heaviness, " Hardcore " pounds and thunders along like a softer Sabaton, befo
