ACEPTIC GOITRE: THE PURGING

ACEPTIC GOITRE: THE PURGING

Aceptic Goitre's second full-length release, The Purging, is a whirlwind of intensely Brutal Death-Metal. Trying to standout and be noticed in an overly saturated scene is no easy task. Extreme Slam and Brutal Death-Metal bands are in no short supply, however, Aceptic Goitre have created an album that is diverse and interesting enough to shine bright. The production here is raw, simple and very basic, leaving the songs under the spotlight to do all the talking. Luckily for Aceptic Goitre, their songs speak loud enough to be heard from afar. The primitive production actually benefits the music here, bizarrely enough, somehow making the songs themselves clearer, and the instruments more distinguishable.
The Purging, unlike many of today's Brutal Death-Metal releases, is packed with diversity, swaying seamlessly from hammering Slamming, to prog technicality, but do not let the word diversity fool you, The Purging is pure, refined brutality.
Following the obligatory creepy and atmospheric intro, "Befouled In Expiation", leaps into action straight off the mark, with clearly audible bass tones, groovy Slamming riffs, grotesque gutturals and serious snare abuse. "The Chapel Of Legions", has a distinctive, Defeated Sanity feel to it, and bears all the hallmarks of a standard Brutal Death-Metal track, with wrist snapping blastbeats, intoxicating Slams, deep growls and squealing vocal highs. Title track, "The Purging", demonstrates Aceptic Goitre's more technical side skillfully, with superb, Suffocation style riff technicality. "Ceremonial Aftermath" continues the barbaric brutality, with an almost rhythmic melody to its headbang worthy guitar work, before spiraling into drum driven, fast paced interludes.
Mixing the old with the new, "Deep Into Oblivion", contains some delightfully old-school Death-Metal style riffs, blended in with thick, bassy, Kraanium-esque Slams, and intense pace changes. With the class of savage, technical assault rarely witnessed outside of, Unfathomable Ruination, "Gillah", packs a merciless punch, executed with fine musicianship.
Turning back to the old-school sound, "The Prologue To Molestation" is a definite highlight on, The Purging, massively paying homage to Dying Fetus, while still displaying, Aceptic Goitre's own notable, sophisticated style of extremity. "Dark Revelations", driven by furious drumming, screeching guitars and pummeling riffs, softens up your ears sufficiently, before, "The Possession Of Elaenor Blythe", impacts with furious heaviness, grittiness and trance inducing slide riffs, providing another standout moment on the album.
Closing the album with walls of crushing Slams, a healthy dose of prog infused chugging riffage, and tinny blastbeats galore, "Deletion", is a excellent swan song to The Purging.
Overall, The Purging is a challenging, yet masterful creation. Although the basic production works well and does not overshadow the songs themselves, it does beg the question of whether or not the album could achieve greater success with a cleaner sound. Regardless, Aceptic Goitre's second album is their best work so far, and shows a progressing band with a huge amount of potential.

BEAST IN BLACK: DARK CONNECTION

BEAST IN BLACK:  DARK CONNECTION     Bombastic, heavy, wild and fun, Dark Connection is everything that any obliging listener can expect to hear from Finnish whippersnappers Beast In Black.      Saturated with synths, electronics and plenty of twiddling guitars, the album has a very European (or more specifically Scandinavian) Pop vibe, more prevalent here than on Beast In Black's previous efforts. That said, there is no shortage of cracking riffs, slamming drums and impressive vocals.     Kicking off in dramatic fashion, " Blade Runner " offers up an seizure inducing blur of riffs and crazed keys. Sounding like a disco injected Judas Priest, " Bella Donna " is bizzare yet undeniably infectious and catchy. With a great sing-along chorus, crunchy Metallic riffs and an abundance of synths and keys, " Highway To Mars " is another groovy staple. Offering a little more heaviness, " Hardcore " pounds and thunders along like a softer Sabaton, befo
