INFINITE DEFILEMENT/ PERVERTED DEXTERITY: INFINITE DEXTERITY SPLIT

INFINITE DEFILEMENT/ PERVERTED DEXTERITY: INFINITE DEXTERITY

Infinite Dexterity is a superb split album consisting of 4 tracks contributed by 2 very different yet equally talented one-man bands, Infinite Defilement from Australia and Indonesia's Perverted Dexterity. Both halves of this split album are brilliant in their own right and compliment each other perfectly, resulting in 27 minutes of diverse and highly entertaining Brutal Death-Metal.
Infinite Defilement take the spotlight first, unleashing 4 tracks of gritty, crunchy savagery. "Enslave The Earth" announces the arrival, as the menacingly intense riffs emerge through the Gregorian chant intro, with a distinct old-school Death-Metal edge to their sound, which works well with the traditional style of death-growls which feature heavily throughout the track. The riffs present here are laden heavily with groove and a welcome technical edge, boosted by deep low end bass work.
Of course, blastbeats and hammering drums drive the music onward, especially through the following track "Misanthropy". The second track is a mixture of old-school savagery, crunching riffs and forays into explosive Slams and bass drop thunder, not to mention formidable vocal displays. "Failed Creation" appears far more modern in comparison to the previous tracks, emanating from the dominance of slow scratching slide riffs, ultra guttural vocals and mechanical drums. "Born Into Shame" has a definite old-school, Six Feet Under-esque aura and contains some of the most notable guitar work of the whole album. Infinite Defilement's last track is obviously a Brutal Death-Metal punch in the face, but it is also one of the most diverse and most memorable moments of the entire split.
Perverted Dexterity deliver the second blow, in a far more technical and comparatively Brutal fashion than the first half. The second half of the album is noticeably shorter, with only 3 tracks of Perverted Dexterity's own original material, before closing the album with a cover version of the disgustingly titled Last Days Of Humanity track, "Raped In The Back Of A Van".
With the kind of barbarous musical warfare that defines acts such as Deeds Of Flesh and Unfathomable Ruination, "Relentless Excruciation" is a sustained surge of blastbeats, throat annihilating guttural vocals and deep screeching riffs. "Reviving Dry Bones" continues the attack with unbelievable speed, trance inducing Slamming slide riffs and mind imploding technicality.
For their last track of original material, "Prognostic Enmity", Perverted Dexterity do not slow down or ease off at all, instead they adopt a Dying Fetus-esque groove into their sound to help round off their onslaught of brutality, as the blastbeats continue to rain down and the riffs chug across the horizon to the very end.
Overall, Infinite Dexterity is one of the strongest and most enjoyable split albums around. In comparison to other split albums, Infinite Dexterity is far simpler, streamlined and undeniably consistent. The different sounds and styles of the two contributors is refreshing and rejuvenating, and definitely has the desired effect.

EXODUS: PERSONA NON GRATA

EXODUS: PERSONA NON GRATA         The Thrash Metal hierarchy has long been constructed around the mainstream success of the American "Big Four", dwarfing their peers outside of the clique with their mass popularity and stratospheric record sales. Thanks to bands such as Exodus, Testament and Overkill, a revolution has begun. The most recent releases from those bands comprising the Big Four have been good at best, while the latest albums from these previously mentioned outsiders have been breathtakingly excellent.    Persona Non Grata is a crushingly heavy slab of solid Thrash Metal. Gary Holt and fellow guitarist Lee Altus whip up a veritable storm of crunchy, Thrashing, whiplash-inducing riffs from start to finish. A superhuman barrage of drum battery is unleashed by Tom Hunting, accompanied by Jack Gibson's booming, thundering and raking bass notes. All the while Steve Souza sings, screams and snarls like a rabid and possessed vocal maestro....

MASSACRE: RESURGENCE

MASSACRE: RESURGENCE      Like the walking dead, Massacre just keep coming back time after time. Refusing to stay down, this band simply won't die. To survive, Massacre takes on a new form every ascension, this time they have re-emerged as the Kam Lee band, with the legendary vocalist being the most consistent and regular member of the band over the years and through the numerous reformations.   The Massacre that we are faced with here on Resurgence could be considered as something of a Death-Metal supergroup. Comprising the band alongside Kam Lee; we have Mike Borders on bass guitar whom was previously a member of the band for short spell in the mid 1980's, alongside Jonny Pettersson of Wombbath (and countless other bands and projects) and Rogga Johansson of Paganizer (and possibly even more bands and projects than Jonny) on guitars, Brynjar Helgetun on drums, and Memoriam's resident riff-lord Scott Fairfax providing lead guitar. United this band of talented ...

NO NONSENSE METAL REVIEWS: THE TOP 10 ALBUMS OF 2021

NO NONSENSE METAL REVIEWS: THE TOP 10 ALBUMS OF 2021     Despite lockdowns, travel restrictions and the cancellation of normality as a result of an ever present global pandemic, 2021 has been a very healthy year for heavy music. With the cancellation and indefinite postponement of tours, festivals and live music in general, bands and artists have been forced to explore alternative avenues and express their artistic visions and passions in other ways. The down time away from the road has left bands with schedules empty enough to write and record new material, some of which has proven to be exceptionally strong new albums, EPs and compilations. The phenomena of the "lockdown live album" as well as live streaming events and virtual concerts have also become a commonplace staple in many band's discography, showing defiantly that COVID-19 and the consequent restrictions enforced will never suffocate the breath of creativity or shroud the light of the soul. Making the be...
