DIPHENYLCHLOROARSINE: POST APOCALYPTIC HUMAN ANNIHILATION

DIPHENYLCHLOROARSINE: POST APOCALYPTIC HUMAN ANNIHILATION

Post Apocalyptic Human Annihilation is one of the most sophisticated, articulately composed and thoroughly enjoyable Brutal Slamming Death-Metal albums ever to grace mortal ears. Putting it plainly, Diphenylchloroarsine's second offering is barbarically brilliant. Spanning a monstrous 55 minutes total running time, Post Apocalyptic Human Annihilation is a prolong torrent of filthy, sludgy Brutal Slamming savagery.
Diphenylchloroarsine have clearly come a long way and evolved massively since their previous release The 6 Level Purge, developing an even sludgier, almost doom infused Slam sound. The album is exceptionally well produced and constructed for a Brutal Slamming Death-Metal release, showcasing some of the most inhuman gutturals and unbelievable musical extremity around.
Upon listening to the album, you cannot help but be completely blown away my Slam virtuoso and all round scene legend, Mats Funderud's incredible guitar work. Although there is no small amount of repetition featured on the album, with most tracks intermingling with one another only clearly separated by sample intros and outros, every track is enjoyable in it's own rite. If you appreciate the simple and essential aspects and characteristics of Brutal Slamming Death-Metal, such as Mats' impeccable riffing or Paul and Ben Wingmark's sickeningly mind blowing vocals, then this album will not disappoint.
Kicking off the album with intense atmospherics and kicking the listener in the face with a huge helping of total musical mass destruction, "Scavenging The Putrid Remains" erupts with all the signature moves that Diphenylchloroarsine displayed on The 6 Level Purge, only this time heavier, harder and furiously filthier. "Survival Of The Coldest" covers either end of the brutality spectrum simultaneously, with thick crawling riffs and towering Slams stacked against completely absurd and insane mechanical blastbeats and all out machine-gun drumming. The best riff of the album award has to go to "Festering Fungus Infestation", for the sheer level of rhythm and groove offered by the crunchy, intoxicating and unconventional guitar work.
"Exasperations Of Monstrous Miscreations" has an interestingly old-school Death-Metal vibe emanating from it's favouring of thick, chugging riffs and comparatively minimal use of generic Slam riffs. "Ravenous Hunger" is an explosive masterpiece, loaded heavily with prolapse inducing bass eruptions, sluggish ultra-distorted Slams and the oozing low rumble of the bass guitar, which helps to add an extra layer of mucus like filth to the slower sections.
Weighing in at a muscular 6 minutes plus, "Eradication Of Human Pestilence" is the longest track of the album, and possibly the heaviest. Again, the old-school vibe echos out clearly here, accompanying the dirty breakdown riffs, terrifyingly amazing gutturals and bombastic drumming beautifully.
"Desolated Toxic Wasteland" resonates highly with the kind of pulverising traditional Slam styles of legends such as Kraanium and Ingested, stamped with Diphenylchloroarsine's trademark swampy, visceral sludgy swagger. Although traditionally fast and aggressive in parts, elsewhere this track also verges on Lorna Shore-esque slowing breakdown territory.       Overall, Post Apocalyptic Human Annihilation is essential listening for any fan of Brutal Death-Metal and Slam. Diphenylchloroarsine's unique brand of "Biochemical Sludge Slam" really does push the boundaries of extreme music possibility, with long, highly original and refreshingly crushing songs, forged by some of the best musicians the scene has to offer.

EXODUS: PERSONA NON GRATA

EXODUS: PERSONA NON GRATA         The Thrash Metal hierarchy has long been constructed around the mainstream success of the American "Big Four", dwarfing their peers outside of the clique with their mass popularity and stratospheric record sales. Thanks to bands such as Exodus, Testament and Overkill, a revolution has begun. The most recent releases from those bands comprising the Big Four have been good at best, while the latest albums from these previously mentioned outsiders have been breathtakingly excellent.    Persona Non Grata is a crushingly heavy slab of solid Thrash Metal. Gary Holt and fellow guitarist Lee Altus whip up a veritable storm of crunchy, Thrashing, whiplash-inducing riffs from start to finish. A superhuman barrage of drum battery is unleashed by Tom Hunting, accompanied by Jack Gibson's booming, thundering and raking bass notes. All the while Steve Souza sings, screams and snarls like a rabid and possessed vocal maestro....

MASSACRE: RESURGENCE

MASSACRE: RESURGENCE      Like the walking dead, Massacre just keep coming back time after time. Refusing to stay down, this band simply won't die. To survive, Massacre takes on a new form every ascension, this time they have re-emerged as the Kam Lee band, with the legendary vocalist being the most consistent and regular member of the band over the years and through the numerous reformations.   The Massacre that we are faced with here on Resurgence could be considered as something of a Death-Metal supergroup. Comprising the band alongside Kam Lee; we have Mike Borders on bass guitar whom was previously a member of the band for short spell in the mid 1980's, alongside Jonny Pettersson of Wombbath (and countless other bands and projects) and Rogga Johansson of Paganizer (and possibly even more bands and projects than Jonny) on guitars, Brynjar Helgetun on drums, and Memoriam's resident riff-lord Scott Fairfax providing lead guitar. United this band of talented ...

NO NONSENSE METAL REVIEWS: THE TOP 10 ALBUMS OF 2021

NO NONSENSE METAL REVIEWS: THE TOP 10 ALBUMS OF 2021     Despite lockdowns, travel restrictions and the cancellation of normality as a result of an ever present global pandemic, 2021 has been a very healthy year for heavy music. With the cancellation and indefinite postponement of tours, festivals and live music in general, bands and artists have been forced to explore alternative avenues and express their artistic visions and passions in other ways. The down time away from the road has left bands with schedules empty enough to write and record new material, some of which has proven to be exceptionally strong new albums, EPs and compilations. The phenomena of the "lockdown live album" as well as live streaming events and virtual concerts have also become a commonplace staple in many band's discography, showing defiantly that COVID-19 and the consequent restrictions enforced will never suffocate the breath of creativity or shroud the light of the soul. Making the be...
