HOMOPHOBIC FECALPHELIAC: SADISTIC THOUGHTS OF A SERIAL KILLER

HOMOPHOBIC FECALPHELIAC:

SADISTIC THOUGHTS OF A SERIAL KILLER

Is this Brutal Slamming Death-Metal, Deathcore, or Slamming Deathcore? Do these labels really matter anyway? We will have to leave the Metal elitists to quibble and ponder such matters until the end of days, but for now suffice to say that Homophobic Fecalpheliac's first full-length album is a brutish barrage of punishing extremity, very much in the vein of Acranius, Within Destruction and Korpse.
Californian Brutal Slam newcomers, Homophobic Fecalpheliac offer up an interesting array of barbaric workings on their debut full-length. Aside from the pigeon-holing complication, the album also carries the all too frequent issue of repetition, as apart from a few standout moments, the tracks seem to blend into one another all too easily. As a whole the album is saturated with breakdowns and stomping Slams which are masterfully executed but highly generic in nature. That said, the album is not short of few headbang or hammer throwing worthy moments.
Title track, "Sadistic Thoughts Of A Serial Killer" opens in Slamming style before throwing itself headfirst into the first of many pounding breakdowns within seconds, creating a monstrous prime example of Slamming Deathcore done right. "Back Alley Abortion" is most notable for the vocals. Sounding like a fusion of Luke Griffin and the late great Mitch Lucker, vocalist Neil Anderson shows off his inhuman noise capabilities in a performance that deserves a lot of credit and respect. The track also features a more technical edge sandwiched between walls of skull shattering breakdowns.
Musically, "Ice Pick Castration" has a pleasing Aversions Crown and Suicide Silence infused sound rooted in the notable intricacy and delightful guitar solo, which help to break up the monotonous waves of breakdowns. This track in particular, shows Homophobic Fecalpheliac's ability and potential to conjure up something slightly more original which packs a significant punch.
Calum Forrest (Shattered Horizons, Pancrectomy) lends a vocal helping hand on "Excrement Experiment", which definitely pays off as the guttural showdown that ensues is eye-wateringly breathtaking. "Defecation Asphyxiation" reigns in Lorna Shore inspired pulverising, harrowing breakdowns, paving the way for a completely random yet well performed Slamming cover of Slayer's "Disciple".
Closing track, "Pre-Pubescent Murder Spree" is another prime example of Homophobic Fecalpheliac's own individual style breaking through. The track leans heavily towards a more straight forward Brutal Death-Metal style, laced with traditional Slam vocals and gargantuan Acrania-esque breakdown riffing.
Overall, Sadistic Thoughts Of A Serial Killer, is a strong first full-length effort, but does somewhat lack elements of charm, structure and identity. Although a good album containing some fantastically brutal moments, the songs noticeably struggle to clamber over one another to get to forefront of attention. Instrumentally and vocally, it would be very difficult to fault the album, other than the fact that the overuse of breakdowns leaves very little time for anything other than the symbols, fuzzy low end and Deathcore famed vocals to bask in the spotlight. If you are looking for extreme musical brutality, plain and simple, then this is the album for you.

BEAST IN BLACK: DARK CONNECTION

BEAST IN BLACK:  DARK CONNECTION     Bombastic, heavy, wild and fun, Dark Connection is everything that any obliging listener can expect to hear from Finnish whippersnappers Beast In Black.      Saturated with synths, electronics and plenty of twiddling guitars, the album has a very European (or more specifically Scandinavian) Pop vibe, more prevalent here than on Beast In Black's previous efforts. That said, there is no shortage of cracking riffs, slamming drums and impressive vocals.     Kicking off in dramatic fashion, " Blade Runner " offers up an seizure inducing blur of riffs and crazed keys. Sounding like a disco injected Judas Priest, " Bella Donna " is bizzare yet undeniably infectious and catchy. With a great sing-along chorus, crunchy Metallic riffs and an abundance of synths and keys, " Highway To Mars " is another groovy staple. Offering a little more heaviness, " Hardcore " pounds and thunders along like a softer Sabaton, befo
